Laylatul Qadr (The Night of Power)

Salam guys,

We are in the last 10 days of Ramadan (oh how quickly time flies by) and I thought it would be a good idea to do a post on Laylatul Qadr.

Laylatul Qadr is also known as Night of Power. This one night is believed to be better than a thousand months and carries many blessings. According to a Hadith, this night occurs in the last 10 odd nights of Ramadan. So this means it could occur on the 21st, 23rd, 25th or 27th night. It is usually celebrated on the 27th night however it is not the confirmed date.

There are a few signs which occur and are listed below:

• The night will be neither hot nor cold, with a clear moon shining but with no rays.
• There will be no shooting stars in the night
• The sun will rise just as a disc with no beams of light

There are a few things you can do during this holy night:

• Read Quran 
• Pray two rakaat Nawafil (optional) prayers
• Pray four rakaat Nawafil prayers

The dua which can be read on Laylatul Qadr is:

Allahumma innaka 'affuwwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'anni

'Oh Allah, you are the One who grants pardon for sins. You love to pardon so pardon me'
